A LIFE OF CRUDITY VULGARITY AND BLINDNESS

2012

daylight, paper aircraft model, mirror, lens, plexiglas, buttermilk

An object in a luminous space directed skyward, its image transported and made visible in a grounded, darkened space. With the aid of a homemade lens and buttermilk this project inhabited and summoned the Portikus architectural edifice as totemic optical device, large-format analogue camera, and live real-time cinema-event.In a sense this was a restoration; turning mise-en-scène on its head this apparatus deferred conventional cinematic direction/auteurship to the building and the atmospheric elements themselves to produce an ancestral film screening, a primal ungrounding of cinematic-ritual lasting the entire duration of the exhibition and beyond.
